The Scottish Retail Excellence Awards were created by the Scottish Daily Record and Scottish Business Insider, with support from the Scottish Retail Consortium, to honour the retail sector's top achievers and to recognise excellence in all areas of retail throughout Scotland.

About the Awards
This year's categories have been selected to reward the retail organisations and individuals who have shown a dynamic and innovative approach to the challenges of modern retailing in Scotland. This covers multiples and department stores as well as independent, speciality and online retailers who have been operating in Scotland for at least 18 months.

HOST

Former GMTV showbiz reporter Jackie Brambles is a main presenter on Loose Women.

During her six years in the Hollywood hills, Jackie interviewed the world’s most famous stars and covered events including the Oscars and 9/11. Actor Colin Farrell famously asked her for a kiss during an interview - lucky lady! In 2004 she left the glitz and glamour of La La land and continued working for GMTV in London.

The year 2005 was especially good for Jackie, not only did she marry David Tod, who she’d been friends with for many years, but she also joined Loose Women.

Jackie left GMTV in 2007 during her second pregnancy with daughter Florence – she and David also have a son, Stanley - but continued to present on Loose Women. She shares the role of main anchor with Andrea McLean.
Before television, Jackie began her broadcasting career in radio. Following a year presenting the Early Evening Show for Capital she joined BBC Radio 1 as the first female primetime presenter, doubling listenership on the Lunchtime show from two to four million.

She relocated to the USA in 1994, where she initially worked as a contributor to BBC Radio before moving into television journalism. She joined CBS as the Morning News Anchor for radio and as the Weekend News Anchor for the TV News. Following her stint at CBS Jackie joined the team at GMTV acting as their Foreign Correspondent and later a showbiz reporter.

Welcome from the Chairman of the
Scottish Retail Consortium

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to take part in the 2009 Scottish Retail Excellence Awards. These prestigious awards celebrate the professionalism, innovation and creativity within our industry and recognise outstanding performance at all levels and across all sectors throughout Scotland.

Retail sales in Scotland exceeded £25 billion in 2008. The sector employs over 245,000 people, over seven per cent of the Scottish workforce and 98% of retailers in Scotland employ less than 50 people. Retail remains the most dynamic sector in the Scottish economy.

At the Scottish Retail Consortium we are committed to working with our members and stakeholders to encourage enterprise and growth in retail as well as supporting ongoing innovation and access to new retailing opportunities for all. As part of that commitment, I am delighted to support the Scottish Daily Record and Scottish Business Insider in the 2008 Scottish Retail Excellence Awards.

This is a great opportunity to celebrate your contribution to retail in Scotland. I hope you will be part of it.
